Fall Concert Date Set: October 23, 2024

Mark your calendar for our Debut Choir Concert on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 7 pm in the Deb Fennell Auditorium.

We are pleased to be featuring compositions written by Oregon Composers: Judy Rose, Daniel Au (Tigard HS alum 2019) and Chris Maunu. We will also be singing a composition by composer Bradley Kauffman, a long time friend and colleague from Goshen, Indiana. Additionally, Concert Choir will be premiering a new piece of music that I wrote this summer entitled “Grief burst in last week” with text written by my poet sister, Margaret Anne Kean.

The Fall Unit will include both in person clinics with the composers Judy, Daniel and Chris and zoom calls with Margaret and Bradley as we prepare these pieces.

Judy, Daniel, Chris and poet Margaret Anne Kean will all be present for the concert. How fun it will be to celebrate their creativity in a live performance event!

See you there!

Great Quote by Leonard Bernstein

“Image of Chile” Speech, 1963

“If we are really serious about communicating with one another, about knowing ourselves through our neighbors — in short, about peaceful civilization — then we can never overestimate the good that comes from artistic communication. When we touch one another through music, we are touching the heart, the mind, and the spirit, all at once.”

And that is why we sing. That is why choir is so important. That is why choir makes a difference in our lives and the lives of others!

Congratulations, Choralation!

Choralation placed 3rd in State Chamber Choir competition on Friday, April 29th. Held at Mt. Hood Community College, the Choir sang beautifully with expression, skill and refined technique! After a celebration at Baskin-Robbins for Ice Cream, we returned to Tigard HS. Shortly after, we received the news of the successful day.

Congratulations and a job well done!!!

Concert Choir 2022-2023 Auditions Set for April 28th, 7-9 pm

Concert Choir Auditions will be held on Thursday, April 28th at 7-9 pm in the THS Choir Room. Your presence is mandatory.

Students must swing by the choir room to pick up a copy of the music being used for the audition. The piece is April is in my Mistress Face, a Renaissance Madrigal in four parts. You will be asked to learn your part, Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass. It does not need to be memorized. It does need to be learned. Come in during any lunch if you need help.

Rehearsal Tracks and a performance of the piece are available under the CONCERT CHOIR AUDITION tab on the website.

HOW DOES THE AUDITION WORK?
I will be looking for students who listen as they sing, well-focused, earnest students who like to sing and have a positive attitude. Students are motivated and self-starters.
1. You will stand in your assigned section for the warm-up.
2. We will rehearse April is in my Mistress Face. Not to learn parts, but to begin lifting it to the next level of musicianship. Students are expected to know their part. (come in during lunch for help if you need it. Use the learning tracks on the website! Be resourceful!)
3. With pencil in hand, we will make adjustments to our sound until it sounds the way we want it to sound.
4. I will listen to individual sections, voice them and then put the whole group back together.
5. Then I will listen to smaller groupings in four parts, perhaps 8-12 at a time.

Members selected into Concert Choir will be posted on this website by student number on May 1st. Those not making it into Concert Choir will be invited to join Camerata or Cantus for the coming year.
